Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sonata in F K.332
Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata in C Op.53 “Waldstein”

‘…the pacing, the expressive energy, the understanding of form, the tension, absolutely wonderful. For me, this is the best recording of the Waldstein Sonata since Solomon’s in the 1950s… perfect musical judgement and a formidable technique from Martin Roscoe…”
Rob Cowan, BBC Radio 3, 2011

Martin Roscoe is a favourite with the Douglas Music Society’s audiences and returns as part of his 60th birthday concert tour. One of Britain’s most prolific performers, Martin Roscoe is a versatile pianist, having especially close links with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has had over ninety performances and partnered eminent conductors such as Simon Rattle, Mark Elder and Christoph von Dohnányi. To celebrate Martin’s birthday, Douglas Music has invited Classic fM’s popular music presenter and composer, John Brunning, to host the evening and lead a pre-concert conversation with Martin at 7.00 p.m., an extra, free to all ticket holders.

John Brunning, broadcaster, composer and musician has been on Classic fM since the very first day it began broadcasting in 1992. Since then he has won awards at both the Sony Radio Academy Awards in London and at the New York International Radio Festival. His own music: ‘Pie Jesu’, ‘Sahara’, ‘Romance No.1’ and ‘Romance No.2’ are firm favourites with listeners.

‘…Coloured perhaps by a personal fondness for [Beethoven's] Op 10, I think Roscoe’s way with them is nigh-on perfect, lightly pedalled, full of a youthful vitality and impudence … a refined pianist with the wisdom of experience…’ Jeremy Nicholas, Gramophone, June 2010

‘…Roscoe is a pianist who both thinks and offers full-blooded playing of breadth and depth. In this country, he is an uncommon creature…’ Daily Telegraph
